Our Vision
IPH’s experience of the last 32 years has given it a lot of insight into the needs of various populations. That has in turn put a spotlight on the need for a place, where people with distress or even in recovery phase after an emotional crisis can have a helping hand to pull them up, and accompany them on their road to recovery. The vision is to develop a non- judgement environment conducive to promote emotional independence, and empowerment This project is one of a kind in India and visionary, as it promises to surf on the tide of times and fulfill crucial needs of the target population. We look forward to expanding our vision and mission in future by replicating our model pan India; As well as to dessiminating our services to urban and rural areas alike, by customize it to available infrastructure and local needs without compromising the essence of our mission. We also look forward to incorporating pet therapy and novel therapeutic modalities in future.

Our Rationale
A key aspect post initial treatment is rehabilitation of individuals. However, experiences of many clinicians have shown that traditional rehabilitation centers, or even unique initiatives like Tridal may not be a good fit for each and every person today, as they may be occupying a unique space on the mental health spectrum. Moreover, traditional rehabilitation centres provide an in-patient set-up, consequently requiring the members to stay away from their families. The stress of the same could be a big deterrent for many, as well as a possible hindrance to skill building. The Hangout cafe offers to eliminate this factor through this structure.
Mental health professionals today must cater to persons who occupy three niches on the mental health spectrum—those who meet the criteria for a mental disorder, those in distress, and those who wish to bring about psychological development. Gone are the days when treating mental disorders meant merely treating the active symptoms of a disorder. That brings us to the fourth niche of the spectrum, which finds itself in danger of being overlooked.
Shubharthi?
a Shubharthi could be an individual recovering from any mental health challenge—be it depression, OCD, anxiety—and not just schizophrenia.
Languishing is a state of distress or despair, which is not enough to meet the criteria for a mental disorder. Resilient individuals shifting from the diagnosis of a mental disorder towards a flourishing state could find themselves languishing ‘in transit’. Such a group of clients, who undergo cognitive, emotional, behavioural and personality distress could be at sea, with no healthcare infrastructures to anchor them gracefully to inclusive harbours. Neither a rehabilitation set up, nor being injected into the outer world directly can help them achieve their goal of successful inclusion and skill building. The changed chronicity of mental disorders calls upon flexibility and innovation in intervention, or infrastructures of mental healthcare. (Bister, 2018).
